February '03 Featured Photo of the Month

The Commentary

Okay, so here’s the story. I was captured by a group of militant pygmies and forced to work in the spice mines of Kessel for the past few months. This would be the reason why there hasn’t been a Featured Photo of the Month for so long. Okay, you don’t believe that? How about I suck and I’m a slacker? I think that is probably the best and most accurate excuse I have. I do apologize for not updating the page as often as I did for the first few months that it was up, but now I have a scanner which means that there is a lot more stuff to go up and I have no more excuses. So, let’s cut the crap and get talking about this month’s Featured Photo.

If you are familiar with the site, you are familiar with a man named Kevin and his site www.enamelband.com. Kevin is the singer/songwriter of Enamel, helped design the site, made it so I can do the maintenance on it, and is one of my closest friends. This is Kevin.
Kevin and I met a number of years ago at a place called Capitol Café in my hometown of Springfield. I was reading my bad poetry and he was playing music with this guy named Ted. The funny thing is I always thought he was really conceited. I think it was because the guy he was playing with oozed that sort of vibe and I think it just sort of seeped onto Kevin. The funny thing is that Kevin is one the nicest, humble people I know. There are two things I remember most about Kevin from Capitol Café. The first time was after I had read one of my poems. The last line is, “I’m going to lie in bed naked and eat pretzels.” After I had read that line and sat down, Kevin came rushing over with a chocolate covered pretzel. I thought it was really funny, and I’m sure he thought I was taking myself way too seriously; which was probably the case. The second thing was the way he looked when he was playing. He was so intense when he sang, and I actually took a picture of him before I knew who he was. Later, I redid the photo in a studio setting. You can see that photo in the people section of the site. It is the photo entitled, “Coffeshop Rock Star”.

Kevin has been sort of my muse. He is incredibly photogenic, and whenever I take photos of him, I am inspired and usually get something good. This photo is from the session we did for the promotional photos for Enamel. This is the first time the photo has been seen in a large fashion, and I was pretty amazed at how much I like it. I have had it for years, and never really thought much about it until I was working on another project. It is an older photo, but has quickly jumped up as one of my favorite photos. I like the way he is just peeking out, and looking at the camera. The look sort of conveys a shyness which is something that is rarely seen from Kevin.

Well, I think that is going to wrap up the commentary for this month’s Featured Photo. Again, it won’t be this long again between updates. As a sort of token offering, I’ve updated the site extensively this month and given you plenty of stuff to check out. So, peek your head in each section and see what’s new. Also, as usual, any comments are appreciated on the Guestbook and if you have a photo you want to suggest as Featured Photo you can do that there as well. In addition, if you want to see past Featured Photos you can check out the Archive.
